What is CASTINGS?

2024-09-18

Casting is a manufacturing process in which a liquid material, such as molten metal or plastic, is poured into a mold and allowed to solidify into a specific shape. Once the material hardens, the mold is removed, leaving behind a final product in the desired form. Casting is commonly used to create complex shapes that would be difficult or uneconomical to achieve through other manufacturing methods like machining or forging.Types of Casting:Sand Casting: A process where sand is used to create the mold. It's one of the most widely used methods, especially for producing large parts.Die Casting: Involves forcing molten metal into a mold cavity under high pressure, commonly used for precision and high-volume production.Investment Casting: Involves creating a wax model, covering it with a ceramic shell, and then melting the wax to create a mold. This method is used for intricate and precise parts.Centrifugal Casting: The mold is spun at high speeds, which forces the material to the edges of the mold, creating cylindrical parts like pipes.Applications of Casting:Casting is widely used in industries like automotive, aerospace, and construction to create engine parts, pipes, and complex machinery components. Its flexibility allows the production of both simple and highly detailed parts in a cost-effective manner.
